Schedule for Class on Friday, February 4

Group,

We need to focus your research efforts in order to give you enough time to create a presentation for the midreview.  Most of you have stated broad research topics but have not made the steps to narrowing your topic down to specific questions for study.  I want all of you to do the following immediately:

  1. Read the chapters from The Craft of Research that was posted to blog last week.  Steps are outlined to help turn your topics into questions for thesis paper writing.
  2. Write down the questions that the reading guides recommends you ask yourself (chapter 3) and post them to the blog by Thursday night.
  3. Based on this exercise and our discussion in class yesterday, revise your research statement.  Post this by Thursday night.
  4. Gather at least five sources (books, journal articles, maps, etc) and post the bibliography to the blog.  Bring the original sources to class on Friday.  If you cannot bring the whole source, show me photocopies of an important section.
  5. Bring all of your research notes to class on Friday.
Your research will lead you to a position or stance on an issue that you will defend partly with words (in your paper) and with a design scheme (your design proposal).  This research is crucial for the creation of a strong design so you must focus on this work this week.

Please comment to this posting with any questions.

Best,
Aj. Nilay
