Mapping Examples

Marc Puig, GSD Student Work
To help you with site analysis of you case studies, and eventually your design interventions, download this slideshow as a reference.  The file was created by Aj. Camille and Aj. Pat for mapping exercises being performed by the Year 1 class.  You have probably seen many of these images before, but consider the value of each means of representation and what you can learn from the image.

All maps are abstractions.  When you can visit a place, record more than just locations of physical objects in plan, but layer information that may change over time to explain your experience.  Perspectives and sections are just as crucial in diagramming a site, so employ any and every drawing type you wish.  Conceptual models are also a tool to never forget.
